Managed Care Approaches to Improve Outcomes in Frontline Therapy for Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma

Program Description

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a form of kidney cancer consisting of different subtypes, with clear cell histology being most prominent (ccRCC). Over the past several years, multiple targeted therapies and immunotherapies for the treatment of ccRCC have been approved; however, there is a lack of transparency in relation to the complexity and high costs of precision medicine, requiring managed care professionals to have greater knowledge of oncology treatment pathways. It is imperative that managed care pharmacists understand the changing treatment landscape and emerging strategies for metastatic ccRCC, as well as the financial burdens associated with these approaches. This activity will cover guideline-recommended treatment options and associated challenges to optimizing the treatment and management of advanced or metastatic ccRCC. The impact of disparities, health equity issues, and other challenges affecting patients with RCC will be addressed. Upon completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to apply oncology clinical treatment pathways to individualize the management of ccRCC to their practice sites for improved patient outcomes.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Examine evidence-based guidelines on targeted agents and immunotherapies for the treatment of advanced or metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
• Identify top challenges for optimizing pharmacotherapy in the treatment of advanced or metastatic ccRCC.
• Investigate the health equity issues affecting patients with ccRCC and the effects of disparities in care on patient outcomes.
