Leveraging Managed Care to Optimize Best Practices in the Treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)

Program Description

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is the most common immune-mediated inflammatory polyneuropathy. The variable disease course and clinical features often result in delayed diagnosis, which can impact clinical burden and treatment initiation. Treatment goals in CIDP focus on reducing symptoms, improving functional ability, and maintaining remission. Immunoglobulin therapy is recommended as a first-line treatment for CIDP and is available as either intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous (SC) formulations. Patients with CIDP will often require long-term therapy, and managed care professionals and pharmacists will need to be familiar with health economics, guideline recommendations, and challenges with immunoglobulin agents. As many immunoglobulin therapies require specialized preparation and administration considerations, managed care professionals must be prepared to address potential access barriers and lower costs, which may also help to improve medication adherence for some patients with CIDP. This program will review utilization management tools for IV and SC immunoglobulin formulations in the treatment of CIDP as well as interventions that can be administered by managed care providers, including patient education.
