Program Description
Food allergies represent a significant concern for patients and caregivers, with many at risk of experiencing potentially life-threatening reactions. While strict allergen avoidance can mitigate risk of exposure and anaphylaxis, this strategy also exacerbates the quality of life burden of IgE-mediated food allergies. Recent years have seen the landscape of food allergy management evolve with an expanding role for biologics in treatment plans. This session will delve into the immunologic pathways targeted by novel biologics and the clinical evidence supporting these therapies, while addressing the challenges of adherence and managing adverse reactions. Specialty pharmacists and managed care professionals must consider the practical integration of these therapies in their practice settings. The discussion will highlight cost-effectiveness considerations of biologic therapies for food allergies, prior authorization strategies, and how pharmacists can support patient access to these treatments to improve quality of life for patients with food allergies and reduce health care resource utilization.
