This activity was originally broadcast live as a satellite symposium held in conjunction with HOPA 2023.
Program Description
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive cancer that is often diagnosed in advanced stages due to its rapid tumor growth and early metastases. Patients with SCLC often develop resistance quickly and, historically, second-line treatment has been limited. Novel agents including several under investigation for patients with SCLC who relapse or are refractory to platinum-based frontline treatment have the potential to address these challenges. The discussion will center on strategies for oncology pharmacists to optimize the use of second-line therapies including lurbinectedin and topotecan for patients with extensive-stage SCLC. Although the safety profile of second-line agents is generally manageable, they have been associated with several clinically significant adverse effects that oncology pharmacists should be aware of and equipped to manage. This program will feature patient case discussions focusing on individualizing care in advanced SCLC, optimizing dosing and administration, and monitoring for and managing adverse effects.
