Program Description
In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), multimorbidity is frequent. They are at high risk of CKD progression, premature mortality, and greater disease burden. Several key opportunities for pharmacists exist at the intersection of diabetes and CKD. Among them is the potential to improve CKD awareness. Early identification of symptoms through screening and prompt initiation of management strategies is paramount. This webinar will outline the pathophysiology of CKD progression and risk factors for people living with T2D. The discussion will center on complications of both the kidneys and the cardiovascular system in diabetes, as well as their effects on patients’ quality of life. The role of the pharmacist in mitigating disease progression and improving overall patient outcomes will be explored.
