Program Description
Diabetes rates are increasing, with a high prevalence of hypoglycemia and long-term complications from suboptimal diabetes management. The use of integrated continuous glucose monitoring (iCGM) devices for daily diabetes management is supported by guidelines from both the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Education on FDA-approved iCGM devices will allow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to be more confident in their knowledge of recommendations for people living with diabetes who might reach adequate glycemic control through the use of diabetes technologies. This session will cover the burden of diabetes, as well as summarize clinical data supporting the use of iCGM devices and highlight key features of different types of devices. As part of PTCE’s Diabetes Day of Education, this session introduces iCGM devices, features a device demonstration and patient counseling video vignettes, and will prepare pharmacists to counsel and pharmacy technicians to assist people living with diabetes who use iCGM devices.
