Patients with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes utilize insulin to manage their blood sugar, of which insulin pump therapy is a notable advancement in treatment technology. Insulin pump therapy can continuously infuse insulin at the proper rate to minimize adverse safety risks like hypoglycemia. While advancements in diabetes technology can improve outcomes, both providers and patients may find them difficult to implement. Insulin pump technology is rapidly progressing, which can make it overwhelming to assess the benefits and who should use them. Pharmacists can help address barriers such as complexity, patient access, and a general lack of knowledge about the technology through training and increasing awareness.
