Program Description
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired autoimmune bleeding disorder characterized by the destruction of platelets and megakaryocytes, resulting in ineffective clotting. Treatment for ITP aims to prevent major bleeding and increase platelet count. The primary goal of ITP treatment is to attain a sustained increase in platelet count while minimizing treatment-associated adverse effects as well as allowing for the possibility of remission. Pharmacists can play a vital role in educating patients regarding medication therapy, monitoring laboratory results, and assisting with adherence strategies.
