Improving Pharmacists' Knowledge of Endometrial Cancer and Solutions for Equity and Medication Access

Program Description

The approval of novel treatment modalities in endometrial cancer, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapies, have improved patients’ survival and overall quality of life. As more complex therapies continue to emerge, medication access remains a central challenge for patients and health care providers as they incorporate these treatments into care plans. Marked inequities in access to pharmacotherapies disproportionately impact patients, especially the underserved populations. Pharmacists are crucial in addressing medication access challenges, providing dedicated services to help patients understand their coverage, and facilitating effective initiation of prescribed therapies for patients with endometrial cancer. This activity will highlight the immunotherapy and oral oncolytic treatment plans for endometrial cancer, approaches to optimizing treatment management, and strategies pharmacists can utilize to improve medication access and reduce health disparities. Faculty experts will also discuss delivery of patient-focused education as well as the pharmacist’s role in providing resources to mitigate financial burdens associated with therapies in the setting of endometrial cancer.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Characterize monotherapy and combination regimens using immunotherapies and oral oncolytics for patients with endometrial cancer
• Optimize management of monotherapy and combination treatments for endometrial cancer through early recognition, appropriate grading, and treatment strategies
• Identify pharmacist-directed strategies to improve access to medication and overcome treatment disparities in endometrial cancer
