Add-on activity
This activity includes a Decision Sim.
Program Description
Kidney transplantation can be lifesaving for patients with end-stage kidney disease. While kidney transplant survival rates have increased over the past 3 decades, rejection remains a devastating complication. A team-based and patient-centered approach using the best evidence-based treatment plan throughout the journey from desensitization to induction and maintenance is key to ensure the best outcomes and, ultimately, improve graft survival. Pharmacists in all practice areas can impact the care of patients preparing for, undergoing, or who have received a kidney transplant. Whether directly part of the transplant team or interacting with transplant patients, pharmacists can deliver useful drug information important for treatment decision making, participate in protocol development, provide patient education and medication monitoring, reduce the potential for medication errors, and ensure access to treatment. This virtual symposium will provide an overview of kidney transplant and review current and emerging therapies that prevent transplant rejection. An interactive decision simulation will provide pharmacists with the opportunity to apply learnings and treatment considerations to unique patient cases.
