Hyperlipidemia Overview and the Clinical and Economic Burden

Program Description
Hyperlipidemia may occur due to genetic or acquired disorders that increase lipid and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Elevated LDL-C is a well-established risk factor in the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Treating hyperlipidemia should be contingent on numerous factors, including patient age, comorbidities, risk-enhancing factors, secondary causes, and shared decision-making measures that consider patient preferences. It is imperative that pharmacists understand that each patient’s LDL-C goal is contingent upon their overall cardiovascular risk. This webinar will review evidence-based recommendations for screening patients with risk factors for hyperlipidemia and reducing the risk of ASCVD. Recommended LDL-C target levels and the consequences associated with undiagnosed and untreated hyperlipidemia will be outlined.
