Exploring the Role of Novel Immunotherapy in the Treatment of Endometrial Cancers

Program Description

The majority of patients with endometrial cancer are diagnosed when disease is limited to the uterus with a 5-year survival rate of over 95%, however patient prognosis decreases to less than 20% in the setting of metastatic or advanced disease. Platinum-based chemotherapy has been the mainstay first-line therapy for patients with advanced endometrial cancer, but the use of biomarkers has guided treatment selection of immunotherapy and targeted therapies in recent years. As these agents enter the treatment paradigm, pharmacists need to be familiar with their evolving recommendations for use. Pharmacists can also assist with combination and targeted therapies as well as assist clinicians in distinguishing immune-related adverse effects (irAEs) from non-irAEs. With continued approval of immunotherapies and combination regimens for patients with endometrial cancer, pharmacists will see expanded roles on the oncology care team. This program will provide strategies pharmacists can employ in early identification of AEs as well as determine appropriate management. Additionally, the pharmacist’s role in making interventions and ensuring access to and continuity of care for patients who may be at higher risk of endometrial cancer will be discussed.
