Exploring the Evolving Treatment Landscape for Patients With Waldenström Macroglobulinemia

Program Description

Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) presents with unique symptoms and complications compared with other B-cell malignancies, which can influence decisions regarding treatment selection and timing. Currently, there is no curative treatment for WM; therefore, the goal of therapy focuses on improving patients’ quality of life by achieving symptom control and reducing tumor burden. Patients with WM experience a long disease course and often require multiple lines of treatment. Treatment-associated toxicities may be challenging and severe, leading to treatment discontinuation. This activity will review considerations for treatment regimen selection and will compare clinical data for therapies under investigation for the treatment of WM consisting of single agent and combinations of targeted agents. Strategies for oncology pharmacists to provide optimal supportive care to patients with WM while managing adverse effects of therapy, such as bleeding and cardiac toxicity, will be discussed.
