Program Description
Pharmacists can be involved in all aspects of osteoporosis care, from patient assessment and diagnosis to initiation and management of pharmacotherapy. This third module in the 4-part curriculum series will review patient case studies from initial patient screening and diagnosis to initiation of therapy. The case studies presented incorporate real-world evidence to give pharmacists opportunities to apply the updated 2020 AACE/ACE guidelines. Equipped with this information, pharmacists can assist in determining appropriate use of approved and current agents in osteoporosis treatment as well as in monitoring ongoing treatment.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Document the evolution of clinical practice guidelines related to osteoporosis treatment
- Examine the 2020 AACE/ACE guidelines, including the updated algorithm on classification of fracture risk and recommendations for drug therapy
- Explain clinical controversies in osteoporosis treatment, including monitoring drug therapy, duration of therapy, sequential treatment, and combination treatment
