Program Description
IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a progressive, rare autoimmune kidney disease. Despite traditional management, roughly 30% to 50% of affected individuals progress to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) within 20 to 30 years of diagnosis. This webinar establishes a comprehensive clinical foundation, reviewing IgAN epidemiology, burden of illness, and its complex multihit pathogenesis while highlighting the pivotal roles of proteinuria and the BAFF/APRIL and endothelin signaling pathways in disease progression. The recent publication of 2025 KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline updates requires that pharmacists be familiar with evidence-based paradigm shifts toward early, simultaneous intervention aimed at achieving near-physiologic rates of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) loss and targeting strict, lower protein thresholds. Beyond maximizing traditional renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blockade, this program equips pharmacists with the clinical trial data and unique mechanisms of newly FDA-approved and emerging targeted therapies. Primary evidence from landmark trials for approved and emerging agents will be discussed. The webinar will also highlight best practices to implement care coordination strategies, patient-centered counseling to address quality-of-life impacts, routine eGFR/proteinuria monitoring adherence, and solutions to overcome access barriers for these novel treatments.
