Evaluating Frontline and Maintenance Therapy in Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Program Description
Acute myeloid leukemia is the most common type of acute leukemia among adults. Historically, the 5-year survival rate is approximately 25%, with the poorest prognosis in patients older than 60 years.  The evolution of the AML treatment landscape requires pharmacists to keep abreast of expanded indications for existing AML treatments as well as recently approved medications, including regimens for initial treatment for patients not candidates for intensive induction therapy and the role of hypomethylating agents in maintenance therapy. This activity will explore the essential role of pharmacists in monitoring adverse effects and educating patients on their medications to improve health outcomes with a focus on strategies for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. This program also includes patient case simulations using videos, which will allow participants to practice making real-world decisions in a timely manner and experience the outcomes of these decisions.
