Program Description

The development of PARP inhibitors has revolutionized the treatment of ovarian cancer. However, there are many nuances managed care providers must consider when evaluating use of PARP inhibitors in patients with ovarian cancer. The specific indications of PARP inhibitors depend on disease status and have been associated with variations in total cost of care for patients, leading to discussions of cost-effectiveness and most appropriate use. This article will review guideline recommendations and evidence-based approaches supporting treatment selection for managed care pharmacists involved in the multidisciplinary care of patients with ovarian cancer. The expanded role of managed care pharmacists in promoting optimal medication utilization of PARP inhibitors through implementing oncology clinical pathways will also be discussed.
