Ensuring the Safe, Effective, and Equitable Care of Patients With Advanced Endometrial Cancer: Strategies for Oncology Pharmacists

Program Description

Endometrial cancer cases have been increasing, making it the leading gynecologic malignancy in women in the US. Advanced stages or recurrent malignancy carry a poor prognosis, but emerging data support treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as additional treatment options. Pharmacists need to stay updated on evolving therapies, facilitating informed discussions and personalized treatment plans. Despite the possibility of enhanced survival with the addition of ICI or TKI treatment in appropriate patients, concerns about adverse effects persist. Pharmacists play a crucial role in preventing, monitoring, and treating adverse effects, offering essential support. Unfortunately, disparities, including biologic/genetic, behavioral, and social determinants, affect patient access to care. The activity addresses the evolving landscape of treatment for advanced endometrial cancer, emphasizing the pharmacist’s role in patient counseling, managing adverse effects, and providing equitable care.
