Program Description
Recognizing the different phases of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is an important element of risk stratification and influences treatment selection. As the central goal of CML treatment is preventing progression to the accelerated or blast phase, oncology pharmacists must understand the expanding frontline treatment arsenal. This program will focus on BCR::ABL1-targeting tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and present clinical considerations for oncology pharmacists involved in treatment selection and evaluating patient response to treatment. Panelists will present patient cases that examine strategies for managing TKI therapies for patients with advanced phase CML or inadequate treatment response. As these medications are oral and self-administered, practical counseling points to optimize adherence and appropriately manage adverse effects will also be discussed.
