Program Description
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a serious and chronic inflammatory dermatologic disease that often presents with patches of skin dryness, pruritus, cracking, oozing, flaking, bleeding, and redness. Worldwide, it affects 10% to 20% of children and is one of the most common skin diseases. There is no cure for AD, and many children have trouble adequately controlling it. Ineffective treatment can result in unnecessary clinical, social, and economic burden for pediatric patients and their caregivers. Individualized treatment involving shared decision making as well as patient and caregiver education is key to minimize the disease burden. Specialty pharmacists are poised to apply their knowledge of current and emerging therapies for moderate to severe AD to develop evidence-based protocols and monitoring strategies for safe and effective treatment to improve care for the pediatric AD population. This activity will provide pharmacists with the most recent clinical data and developments in the treatment of moderate to severe pediatric AD.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Examine the clinical presentation of moderate to severe pediatric atopic dermatitis including the burden of illness and challenges related to treatment
Explore the standards of care for moderate to severe pediatric atopic dermatitis and role of current and novel treatment options
Identify counseling points, dosing, and monitoring parameters for pediatric atopic dermatitis therapies and establish criteria for which a patient should seek further medical attention
