Program Description

Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) are 2 leading causes of vision loss among adults worldwide, affecting over 40 million people globally. Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapies have been the gold standard for the treatment of nAMD and DME to reduce the rates of vision loss through the prevention of the growth of new blood vessels. However, adverse effects and the burden of frequent injections due to undesirable treatment durability often lead to poorer real-world outcomes compared with what is seen in clinical trials. Managed care professionals must be able to identify gaps in patients’ treatment and consider evidence supporting recent advancements in therapies in order to optimize patient outcomes while providing cost-effective care. This activity will review recent data on the advances in nAMD and DME treatment in addition to best practices in applying the clinical data to managed care considerations. This expert panel discussion will highlight the burden of the diseases and treatments and discuss a patient’s journey through various treatment strategies utilizing patient cases.
