Overview
This full-day educational meeting will provide live practical education to pharmacists practicing in oncology in multiple practice environments including health-system, specialty pharmacy, outpatient clinic, and infusion center settings. Sessions will focus on evolving treatment strategies, including use of checkpoint inhibitors and targeted oral and infusional therapies for the care of patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies.
Rapidly evolving use of immunotherapies and targeted therapies has changed the landscape for anticancer treatment. The complexity of new regimens and the need for coordination of care across practice and pharmacy settings has reinforced and expanded the roles of pharmacists both clinically and operationally. It is essential for pharmacists across settings to understand the different treatment options and dosing regimens, implement methods to improve patient adherence, educate other health care team members, and counsel patients during onboarding and ongoing treatment to manage potential adverse effects associated with these agents to optimize patient care and outcomes. This full-day educational meeting will provide live practical education to pharmacists who take care of patients with cancer in multiple practice settings. Didactic sessions will focus on evolving treatment strategies, including use of checkpoint inhibitors and targeted oral and infusional therapies for the care of patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. In addition, panel discussions will highlight key concepts for application in patient case scenarios.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this application-based educational conference, pharmacists will be able to:
- Examine recently approved and expanded indications for immunotherapies and targeted therapies, including evidence for use based on biomarkers as well as efficacy and safety
- Analyze current hematologic and solid malignancy guidelines, including for chronic lymphocytic leukemia, breast, ovarian, endometrial, and other cancers, for how evolving agents fit into the treatment paradigm
- Identify the role of pharmacists in managing adverse effects, educating the health care team and patients, improving patient adherence, and coordinating care to improve patient outcomes
- Apply knowledge of therapies, clinical evidence, and treatment guidelines to real-world patient case scenarios
