Demystifying the Details of T-Cell-Engaging Bispecific Antibodies: Establishing a Foundation for Oncology Pharmacists

Program Description

T-cell-engaging bispecific antibodies (BsAbs) present several advantages for patients and clinicians in the treatment and management of multiple types of cancer. However, as with any evolving class of agents, oncology pharmacists must be prepared and equipped to address challenges in their development, preparation, administration, and monitoring. Comprehending the mechanism of action and construct of T-cell-engaging BsAbs is key to recognizing their roles in harnessing the patient’s immune system to destroy tumor cells. This article will review safety and efficacy data for approved and emerging BsAbs across cancer types to prepare oncology pharmacists for the inclusion of BsAbs in guideline and treatment recommendations. Pharmacists should be aware of optimal treatment selection and sequencing as well as approaches to prevent and minimize toxicities associated with T-cell-engaging BsAbs. The pharmacist’s role in facilitating access to BsAbs and designing protocols and workflows that overcome operational challenges will also be examined.
