Program Description

Integrated continuous glucose monitoring (iCGM) devices have been shown to reduce the rate of clinical hypoglycemia across adults and adolescent populations with diabetes. An important role for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians is to assist in supporting individualized diabetes care plans and encouraging the review of data from a person’s iCGM device. Expert panelists will discuss health literacy and technology barriers affecting access to and uptake of iCGM devices. Strategies for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to address these barriers through patient-focused education and share best practices in relation to the type of iCGM device a person with diabetes is wearing will be presented. Additionally, patient cases will be introduced to highlight a person-centered approach to diabetes care plans that address individual preferences and potential benefits of iCGM use. This program also features a patient perspective interview that will highlight a person with diabetes and their experience using an iCGM device.
