Current Landscape of Integrated Continuous Glucose Monitoring Devices and Identifying Appropriate Candidates (Pharmacy Technician Credit)

Program Description

The use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices has grown over the years and assisted with improving the care of patients with diabetes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the classification of integrated CGM (iCGM), which requires more stringent accuracy measures. iCGM devices are compatible with multiple devices and can transmit glucose measurement data to digitally connected devices. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can play an active role in the identification of patients with diabetes that are appropriate for CGM. This webinar will discuss the available iCGM devices used in the community setting and distinguish between the different features. The updated 2022 American Diabetes Association Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes will be reviewed as well. Included in this activity are counseling videos that offer important educational pearls on assisting a patient with diabetes with an iCGM device.

• Recognize differences between available integrated CGM (iCGM) devices used in the management of diabetes
• Discuss the role of the pharmacy technician in identifying potential candidates for iCGM and referring patients with diabetes to the pharmacist
