Program Description

Pet owners may often seek information about prescription medications for their animals from pharmacists or pharmacy technicians. This discussion will provide pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with resources they can consult to better educate pet owners about safety of products. Differences between over-the-counter and prescription medications, appropriate treatment and dosing of products for humans and animals, as well as how to report potential toxicities and adverse effects will all be reviewed to better equip pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to answer questions from pet owners.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Discuss common questions for animal caregivers about medications for animals
• Discuss core vaccines available for pets and which one is required in many states to protect public health
• Articulate counseling points to address animal caregivers’ questions
