Program Description

Though targeted therapies such as Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) and BCL-2 inhibitors have improved outcomes in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), challenges remain. Real-world data indicate high rates of discontinuation due to BTK inhibitor resistance or intolerance due to treatment-related adverse effects. These treatment effects limit medication adherence, which contributes to higher health care utilization costs. This virtual symposium will review the current treatment approaches for CLL, highlighting new dosing strategies, recent updates in treatment guidelines, and the managed care pharmacist's perspective on operational and financial challenges to optimizing coordination of care. Panelists will discuss continuous- and fixed-duration treatment regimens, with a focus on how incorporating new treatment strategies into CLL care pathways may alleviate financial burden for patients and the health care system.
