Program Description
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIPD) follows a progressive disabling course, and disease-related disability is common among patients. Current treatment goals focus on decreasing clinical burden, reducing symptoms, improving functional ability, and maintaining remission. Immunoglobulin (Ig) is often initiated as therapy for CIDP and can be administered via intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous (SC), though treatment choice should consider patient preference and adverse effects. Specialty pharmacists in particular must be able to interpret nuances in changing from IVIg to SCIg formulations for patients with CIPD as well as be aware of the monitoring and optimization of CIDP therapy. This activity will also explore considerations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic influencing shared clinical decision making for treatment with immunoglobulin therapy.
