This activity was originally broadcast live at the 2022 Asembia Specialty Pharmacy Summit.
Program Description
IgA nephropathy is an autoimmune disease that often begins asymptomatically and damages glomeruli in the kidneys, reducing their ability to filter waste products from the blood. This often causes progression to advanced kidney disease requiring dialysis or transplantation. However, it has been found that patients who are diagnosed earlier in the disease process and receive effective treatment have better overall outcomes. Pharmacists are well positioned to ensure patients with IgA nephropathy have access to health care and can initiate appropriate treatment with pharmacotherapy and supportive care options using guideline recommendations. This activity will explore clinical data and indications of medications to treat IgA nephropathy, with a focus on recently approved products and potential therapies under investigation and their targeted pathways. The fundamental elements for managed care and specialty pharmacists to assist in the development of supportive care pathways for patients with IgA nephropathy to improve disease management will also be discussed.
