Clinical Conversations with the Cancer Care Team: Optimizing the Care of Patients on CAR T-Cell Therapy Through Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Patient Insights

Program Description

The use of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies are impacting the treatment of many malignancies, including multiple myeloma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The use of these therapies requires all members of the health care team; there are many factors to consider when selecting therapy, as well as monitoring post-administration due to the potential for cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). Additionally, care coordination is important, as these therapies often involve teammates in both the inpatient and outpatient health care settings. This program will feature a multidisciplinary panel of experts who will discuss the use of CAR T-cell therapies in practice, the role of each health care teammate involved in patient care, and how to overcome challenges in access to care.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Compare the experience of physicians, nurses, and pharmacists in the complexities of care involved with CAR T-cell therapy.
• Customize a plan within the multidisciplinary care team to overcome obstacles impeding patients’ ability to receive treatment with CAR T-cell therapies.
• Determine needs for the increased use of cellular therapy in the inpatient and outpatient settings by implementing institutional policies and procedures, applying considerations for alternative administration, and navigating financial barriers
