Program Description

With nearly 58 million pet cats in the United States, medications may be necessary for a variety of conditions affecting felines. Pharmacists may be presented with prescriptions for illnesses and conditions that are common in cats, such as for pain management, urinary tract infections, or diabetes. Just as there are many patient-specific conditions and factors pharmacists dispensing medications for humans must consider, they should also have an understanding of how feline behavior, anatomy, and metabolism may affect use of medications in cats. This activity will explore types of medications likely to be available in the community pharmacy to treat medical conditions in cats as well as those that are contraindicated or potentially harmful.
