Caring for Patients With Endometrial Cancer Through the Management of Immune-Mediated Endocrinopathies and Adverse Effects of Targeted Therapy

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer affecting women in the United States. Although early-stage disease may be treated with surgery alone, metastatic disease has a lower overall survival. This activity will review risk factors for endometrial cancer as well as factors impacting prognosis; treatment strategies will also be discussed, with an emphasis on targeted and immunotherapies in the management of endometrial cancer and the pharmacist’s role in optimizing patient care. Specifically, as targeted and immunotherapies are associated with unique adverse effects, pharmacists can play a key role in educating patients and assisting in strategies for therapy management.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Examine endometrial cancer epidemiology, risk factors, and prognosis
• Determine guideline recommendations for molecularly targeted and immune-based therapies in the management of endometrial cancer
• Identify optimal strategies for managing immune-mediated endocrinopathies in patients with endometrial cancer receiving immunotherapy
• Apply knowledge of adverse effects associated with targeted or immunotherapies to effectively provide counseling for patients with endometrial cancer
