Program Description
While the comorbidities and costs of diabetes are well known, persons with diabetes also experience psychological stress due to risk of hypoglycemia. This webinar will review clinical data supporting the use of integrated continuous glucose monitoring (iCGM) devices in decreasing risk of hypoglycemia in individuals living with diabetes. Despite data supporting iCGMs as the new standard of care for diabetes management, their uptake remains low, and pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are optimally positioned to identify persons with diabetes who would benefit from utilization of an iCGM device. Approaches to overcome current challenges with diabetes health literacy and access barriers affecting the uptake and use of iCGM devices will be examined. Patient counseling videos included throughout the activity will include detailed educational points for setting up a patient’s iCGM device with customizable settings, responding to alerts, and interpreting iCGM data.
