This activity includes patient counseling video vignettes.
Program Description
A deeper understanding of the pathophysiology of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), an immune-mediated condition of the esophagus causing inflammation, has led to the discovery of various targets that may be susceptible to biologic therapy. With the expanding treatment options for pediatric patients with EoE have come additional goals of therapy beyond symptomatic improvement. Targeted therapies in EoE aim for mucosal healing, fibrosis prevention, quality of life improvement, social activity restoration, feeding dysfunction correction, and prevention of nutritional deficiencies in children. As biologics continue to be developed and expand their indications in EoE, specialty pharmacists are becoming increasingly integral to patients, their caregivers, and the multidisciplinary care team. This session will focus on the significant quality of life burden of EoE and the role of approved biologic therapy. Patient case video vignettes will be integrated into this session to highlight the role of the specialty pharmacist in assisting caregivers and patients with therapy initiation and optimization.
