Program Description

The recent resurgence of measles in the United States requires pharmacists to recognize the importance of evidence-based prevention strategies, including the critical role of vaccination. While vaccination remains the leading prevention strategy, the concerning impact of vaccine hesitancy on outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases highlights the role of pharmacists in combating misinformation within their communities. This webinar will examine the pharmacist's role in promoting informed decision-making for administration of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, covering its safety, efficacy, and current vaccination guidelines. A live Q&A session will enable participants to submit their specific questions related to measles management, vaccination, and patient counseling best practices shared by the presenters.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Explain the pathogenesis of measles virus infection, its interaction with the immune system, and the mechanisms leading to complications
• Identify the management for measles, including supportive care
• Apply current recommendations for measles vaccination by addressing the recommended schedule, contraindications, and strategies for addressing vaccine hesitancy
