The evolution of patient care has expanded the role of pharmacists practicing in health-system settings in facilitating patient access to much-needed medications. Continuous advancements in the treatment and prevention of many diseases require health-system pharmacists to have the most up-to-date information on emerging disease-modifying interventions and other pharmacologic therapies and incorporate them into existing protocols. For years, the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition has provided health-system pharmacy practitioners with a venue for updating their knowledge, networking with colleagues, enhancing their skills, and learning about the latest clinical research to better participate in health care initiatives and clinical decision making that will have a direct and positive impact on patient care. The sessions this year will highlight existing treatment guidelines, evolving clinical pathways, and emerging pharmacologic regimens for patients with chronic and progressive conditions. Topics will include updated treatment regimens in the care of patients with iron deficiency and anemia in heart failure, short bowel syndrome, and nephrology conditions, as well as utilization of immunotherapies and targeted therapy in oncology.
