Activity Overview
The most significant risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are infection with hepatitis virus B or C and cirrhosis. HCC frequently remains undiagnosed until late in the disease course, when it is classified as resectable, transplantable, unresectable, or metastatic. Pharmacists must be familiar with patient performance status and HCC staging to best determine treatment strategies. The clinical pharmacist maintains regular interactions with patients and must be prepared to deliver medication-related education as well as education regarding adverse effects and potential drug interactions to enhance patient outcomes.
