The sessions will highlight existing treatment guidelines, evolving clinical pathways, and strategies to lower disease burden and costs of care for patients with chronic and progressive conditions while reducing health care resource utilization for payers.
The evolution of patient care has expanded the role of managed care pharmacists in facilitating patient access to much needed medications. Continuous advancements in the treatment and prevention of many diseases require managed care pharmacists to have the most up-to-date information on emerging disease-modifying interventions and other pharmacologic therapies and incorporate them into existing protocols. For years, the AMCP Nexus meeting has united managed care professionals, including pharmacists, with discussions on the most pressing issues in health care and managed care pharmacy. The sessions will highlight existing treatment guidelines, evolving clinical pathways, and strategies to lower disease burden and costs of care for patients with chronic and progressive conditions while reducing health care resource utilization for payers. Topics will include limitations of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors in the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema and the utilization of immunotherapy and targeted therapies in food allergies.
