Program Description
Slowing disease progression and reducing symptom burden for patients are the main treatment goals in myelofibrosis (MF). Pharmacists have valuable roles in the multidisciplinary team in treatment selection, assessing treatment response, managing development of treatment resistance, and navigating dose adjustments for patients receiving Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors. This program will review approved and emerging JAK inhibitors and efficacy data of each agent in addressing symptoms such as anemia and splenomegaly. As additional JAK inhibitor therapies enter the treatment landscape of MF, the role of specialty pharmacists in providing counseling, adherence monitoring, and coordinating care is poised to expand. This program features a patient perspective interview that will highlight the experience and challenges of an individual living with MF and the role of specialty pharmacists in providing support and disease management strategies.
