Program Description

Improved awareness and screening, along with the use of neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies, have led to a decrease in mortality rates for breast cancer. New targeted therapies have expanded the available treatment options for early-stage breast cancer, though their integration into therapy can be complicated by disease subtype. This session will explore specific factors that may influence treatment decision-making within current treatment guidelines for early-stage breast cancer. Informed interventions can improve treatment decision-making and adherence to therapies, resulting in fewer adverse effects, lower rates of treatment discontinuation, and reduced hospitalizations and mortality for patients. Featured patient case discussions will incorporate challenges oncology pharmacists may encounter when preparing treatment plans for patients with early-stage breast cancer, such as identification of high-risk features, treatment sequencing, and personalization of treatment regimens based on risk assessments.
