Program Description
Migraine has a significant and debilitating impact on patients’ physical, social, and occupational functioning. However, the limitations of current migraine therapy often lead to medication overuse. New and emerging therapies for acute and preventive migraine treatment have led to opportunities for pharmacists to intervene in patient care, change disease trajectory, and prevent medication overuse. Community pharmacists can assist in managing both acute and chronic migraines by improving patient understanding of medications and optimizing treatment paradigms to substantially reduce the burden of disease. Due to their accessibility and frequent communication with patients, community pharmacists are in a unique position to improve outcomes of patients with migraine. The interdisciplinary panelists will lead a discussion focused on challenges in individualizing treatment for patients with migraine.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Explore pathophysiology, incidence, and treatment challenges associated with migraine
• Examine the safety and efficacy of new and emerging acute and preventive therapies for migraine
• Identify the role of the pharmacist in recognizing medication overuse and counseling the patient about the most up-to-date migraine treatment options to individualize and improve patient care
