Program Description
Up to 25% of breast cancers overexpress human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2). Several HER2-targeted therapies, including anti-HER2 monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, have improved outcomes for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer. Oncology pharmacists must be familiar with emerging agents and use of combination regimens, in the setting of metastatic disease. Management of patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer treated with these targeted therapies must be individualized, and pharmacists should be aware of disease-related factors and adverse effects that may vary among patients. Patient case scenarios will be incorporated throughout this activity for pharmacists to practice applying clinical recommendations and assessing patients for appropriate treatment regimens and therapy management.
