Program Description
Heart failure costs are expected to reach $69.8 billion per year by 2030, and as such it is one of the most costly and prevalent disease states in the United States. Patients diagnosed with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) have higher health care utilization rates compared with patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). New 2022 treatment recommendations for HFpEF include the use of SGLT2 inhibitors first line as well as mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, angiotensin receptor blockers, angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors, and loop diuretics for symptomatic relief. This activity will cover the differences between HFpEF and HFrEF, implementation of strategies to optimize treatment of HFpEF based on new guideline recommendations, and medication access management and cost concerns. Pharmacists will be better equipped to ensure quality and cost-effective care is provided equitably to patients with HFpEF.
