This activity includes patient counseling video vignettes and a Pharmacist All-Star Challenge posttest.
Program Description
Bipolar I disorder, characterized by recurrent episodes of depression and mania, is the leading cause of disability in young adults. Patients who have bipolar disorder struggle with management of comorbid conditions and reduced quality of life as well as stigma related to their diagnosis. Achievement of successful treatment outcomes is multifaceted and requires close coordination between the provider, patient, and/or caregivers to develop a treatment plan that meets the patient’s needs. Pharmacists have an important role in empowering patients by identifying symptoms that warrant additional care, counseling on treatment expectations, and monitoring effects of therapy. This activity will provide pharmacists with an overview on the current state of management of bipolar I disorder and an update on the role of new therapies. Patient case vignettes and an interactive posttest will enable pharmacists to practice applying key concepts and counseling when providing treatment and management plans for patients with bipolar I disorder.
