This activity was originally broadcast live as a symposium at AJMC® Day of Education 2022.
Program Description
Myasthenia gravis is a progressive neuromuscular disorder that impacts voluntary muscle movements and can be life-threatening if respiratory function is impaired. The disease course of myasthenia gravis varies, and treatment often needs to be re-evaluated based on disease stage and patient-specific factors, including age and comorbid conditions. Several recently approved and investigational drugs are exploring different mechanisms of action to modify the disease process. Managed care professionals and pharmacists should be familiar with current and emerging therapies and their potential role in treatment plans for the management of patients with myasthenia gravis. It is imperative that managed care pharmacists consider new classes of medications and the impact on total costs when evaluating the potential of emerging treatments for patients with myasthenia gravis. This activity will review new medications and key considerations as well as strategies to improve quality of life and reduce overall health care resource utilization associated with treatments for myasthenia gravis.
