Advancements in Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer Therapy: Integrating Clinical Evidence to Fill Gaps in Care

Program Description

Patients with extensive stage-small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) face a poor prognosis, and while cure is possible with limited-stage disease, the goal of systemic treatment for metastatic disease is to alleviate symptoms and prolong survival. Following disease progression on frontline therapy, approximately half of patients will get second-line treatment and even fewer will get third-line treatment. Despite advancements in the treatment landscape, the need for additional therapeutic strategies remains critical, and oncology pharmacists require knowledge of the clinical utility of these emerging and investigational agents. As the therapeutic landscape for SCLC continues to expand, integrating the knowledge about the management of therapies into treatment protocols will become even more important for oncology pharmacists. This activity will not only review safety profiles of new and emerging treatments for relapsed ES-SCLC, but will also equip oncology pharmacists to manage treatment-related adverse effects. Guideline recommendations and strategies to optimize SCLC treatment and overcome frontline treatment challenges will also be discussed.
