Program Description

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by intense itch and eczematous lesions. A number of genetic, immunologic, and environmental factors combine in AD to disrupt skin barrier function. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should be aware of nonpharmacologic strategies to manage these triggers to reduce AD flares as well as traditional treatment regimens for AD. Additionally, the American Association of Dermatology (AAD) recommends the routine use of daily moisturizers to relieve symptoms and enhance skin hydration in patients with AD. This webinar will outline the importance of daily skin care practices and counseling points pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can share with patients about the use of OTC skin care products and moisturizers in improving the skin barrier and reducing symptoms associated with AD.
