Program Description
Proper contact lens hygiene is central to preventing ocular complications and infections, but adherence to lens care routines are typically poor, and between 40% and 90% of contact lens wearers do not properly follow care instructions. Community pharmacists and pharmacy technicians often encounter patients with questions about their lens care and should be knowledgeable about ways patients with different types of contact lenses can minimize the risk of complications. Pharmacy technicians have an important role in identifying patients at risk of ocular infections who may need further counseling by the pharmacist on proper contact lens hygiene. Pharmacists need to be able to evaluate contact lens solutions and recommend the most appropriate type of solution for each patient’s needs and contact lens type. The counseling videos embedded within this activity will review instructions for daily lens care and present practical strategies to optimize hygiene and minimize complications for patients who wear contact lenses.
