Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of upper respiratory tract infection, especially in older adults. This population experiences greater hospitalization rates, complications, and mortality compared with younger patients or those without comorbidities. Due to the immense disease burden of RSV, it is imperative that pharmacists educate patients about long-term complications of RSV infection and are familiar with symptoms to distinguish RSV from influenza or other respiratory viruses. Recently, 2 vaccine candidates have received approval in older adults, though the development of a safe and effective RSV vaccine in additional populations has been met with significant barriers that pharmacists are well positioned to address. This resource center includes a digital article with audio narration and a webinar accompanied by patient counseling video vignettes that will review the role of approved and investigational vaccines in the current treatment paradigm and changing landscape of RSV prevention. Upon completion of the activities in this resource center, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion showcasing their commitment to promoting RSV awareness and facilitating RSV prevention and management through vaccination and shared decision making with patients.
