Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency Anemia: Strategies for Pharmacists to Impact Patient Outcomes

This activity is supported by an educational grant from American Regent, Inc.

Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) represent a significant global health burden that, if left untreated, can lead to debilitating fatigue and impaired cognitive function, as well as more serious cardiac complications in some patients. As highly accessible health care professionals, pharmacists play a critical role in the identification, management, and patient counseling for IDA. This resource center on IDA contains 4 dynamic webinars designed to enhance pharmacist expertise in managing IDA, particularly its unique complexities across various patient populations. The programs delve into the specific diagnostic and treatment considerations for IDA in patients with heart failure, individuals living with inflammatory bowel disease, those undergoing cancer treatment, and women across all life stages. Each webinar provides evidence-based strategies, guideline recommendations, and practical insights such as protocols for identifying and using iron replacement to help optimize patient care and improve outcomes.
